Nebula Awards Eligibility
Active, Associate, Lifetime Active and Lifetime Associate Members are eligible to nominate and vote for the Nebula, Norton, and Bradbury Awards.
Eligibility for published works runs from January 1 – December 31 of a given year. The awards are announced the following spring. In other words, the 2018 Nebula Awards (for works published from January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2018) will be given at the Nebula Conference Banquet in May 2019.
The Nomination Process
Works must be nominated by an Active, Lifetime Active, Associate or Lifetime Associate member (with no fiduciary interest–which means, not the writer, and not the editor, the agent, or publisher) during the nomination period, which runs November 15 of the eligibility year through February 15 of the following year.
An author does not have to be a member of SFWA in order for her work to be considered. The best way to offer a work for consideration for the Nebula Awards is to make sure that it is available for review by SFWA members. SFWA members can post an electronic version of an eligible work in the Fiction area on the SFWA discussion forum. After that, the work and its writer are in the hands of the Fates.
Nebula Suggested Reading List
All categories of SFWA member are eligible to contribute to the Nebula Suggested Reading List. This includes Active, Associate, and Affiliate Members.
The reading list is available at: Reading List
Members are encouraged to make as many recommendations as they wish. There is no limit to the number of recommendations a member can make to the Suggested Reading List. Recommendations may be made at any time during the year.
Anyone may view the Nebula Suggested Reading List. Please note this list is for informational purposes only and does not reflect incoming nominations or form a preliminary ballot.
Nebula Awards: Fiction Discussion Area
Members and non-members alike are encouraged to offer their eligible works for consideration for the Nebula, Norton, and Bradbury Awards by making them available on the Nebula Awards: Fiction area on the discussion forum. The SFWA discussion forum is open only to members and is password protected.
Member writers, editors, publishers, and agents are free to post their own eligible works to the appropriate sub-forum category.
Non-members may make their eligible works available to members by sending it to the Nebula Awards Commissioner at email@example.com. The Nebula Awards Commissioner will post the work to the appropriate sub-forum of the Fiction discussion area.
